Provide life saving surgery for my Afghan hound
Donation protected
This picture is of my 5 year old Afghan hound named Orlaith.
She is the sweetest and happiest dog you could imagine under usual circumstances, but unfortunately in January of this year she took severely ill suddenly and had to be rushed to the vet.
She had sepsis and was unknown at the time suffering from a rare condition called Lung Lobe Torsion (LLT). After spending 4 days battling against the sepsis, she was referred to the Glasgow University Small Animal hospital for emergency treatment. where within hours or being admitted she had to have over 3 litres of fluid drained from the pleural cavity around her lungs. Without this procedure i doubt she would have survived another night.
The following morning, she was scheduled for a CT scan which revealed she had torsion of the right middle lobe of her lube and subsequently she was prepped and send straight into surgery for a lobectomy. This was then followed by nearly 2 weeks in intensive care recovering before she was released to come home again.
That spanned from Jan 10th til Jan 27th of this year, and due to being uninsured, she accrued a substantial cost of treatment totalling almost £10,500 which i am currently in the
process of paying off.
It has now been over 3 months since she was discharged and she seemed to be back to her old self and recovering well until 3 days ago when she began to show some subtle but worrying symptoms that by the 2nd day were concerning enough to warrant an emergency appointment back with my local vet practice again. It was confirmed then that fluid was once again building up around her lungs and heart.
She is currently at home being cared for and taking anti-diuretic tablets to stabilise her current condition, which fortunately seems to be helping, but this is not a cure for the source of the issue and simply buying us time at the moment.
Ultimately she is going to need a referal back to the university hospital again to locate and repair the source of this fluid build up, if possible, as my local practice just does not have the capabilities to treat her here in my hometown.
As i mentioned earlier, i was uninsured and am already in a lot of debt paying for the first round of treatment that saved her in january, and whilst i have insurance now, it is still classed as a pre-existing condition and therefore i am unable to claim anything towards the treatment she is going to need asap if she is to stand any chance of surviving this dreadful condition.
I had previously never heard of LLT before, but since then i have learned that as a breed afghan hounds are far more succeptable to it that most other breeds due to their large deep chests.
Due to this horrific situation my poor girl and i find ourselves in once again, i would like to appeal to anyone who is able to please help me raise funds towards paying for Orlaith's desterately needed life saving surgery. Anything at all would be so gratefully appreciated, as im sure you can all understand how painful and heart wrenching it is to see your beloved fur babies suffering, hence why i make this appeal.
I cannot just sit and allow her to fade away before my eyes without doing everything within my power to give her the best chance to survival. So with that in mind, i emplore anybody with a heart and the means to donate as much or as little you can afford, everything helps.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and to anyone that donates, know that i will be forever grateful for your kindness and help during this difficult time.
