Provide for our family with our HLHS baby

Hello! My name is Maria. My fiancé is Jacob and we have a 3 yr old named Jax! We are growing our family with our baby Theo who will be here October 24th.

at 22 weeks pregnant we found out our baby Theo had something wrong with his heart… upon referral to a pediatric cardiologist, we were told the unfortunate news that our baby has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Basically, baby Theo’s left ventricle of his heart is severely underdeveloped. Without intervention, he would most likely pass within a week once born. Thankfully, with medical advancements, there are palliative surgeries that will (hopefully) save his life. This will be a series of 3 open heart surgeries with the first of the 3 being performed within 3-5 days after birth. I will be induced to have our baby Theo at UVA children’s hospital where all of his surgical care will be done. With all of this going on, baby Theo will be in the hospital for at least a month.

Here’s where your help is needed.. I will spend Theo’s whole time in the hospital with him while Jacob will have to continue working to try to provide for all of our bills/ needs. Jacob’s job is NOT providing FMLA or Paternity leave since he hasn’t been there over a year. We originally planned for him to take 9 days of FMLA (1/2 pay) so he could be with me and Theo at least until his surgery is over and hopefully stable.. but now this is no longer an option with our financial situation. We are not the type to ask for help but we need it now. If we are able to raise enough money, we won’t have to worry about him trying to provide for us financially all on his own or rack up our credit cards. It will give us the time we need to be together for Theo rather than apart.
