My name is Amy Marie Vanderpool and I was born and raised in San Clemente, CA. I'm 53 years old and dying of liver and kidney failure.
I just left Mission Hospital on June 1st after a 25 day stay. The Doctors put me into a self=induced coma, which lasted nearly 8 days. They gave me an 11 percent chance to make it through, but I refuse to give up. I had to learn how to walk again which was very strange, considering how active I used to be. I'm now in a recuperating care facility.
The doctors that have provided all of the testing and the endless hospital stays, have all agreed that I'd be lucky for a year, but 6 months is the target. I have surpassed the 6 months mark and I plan on staying focused on a longer life.I lost my brother at 4 years old in 1981 and I don't want my mom to lose her only child. I also don't want her to be left with any outstanding medical and financial grief if and when she loses her only other child. We grew up living paycheck to paycheck and she was finally able to retire from a long teaching career. I'm only asking for minimal help, because I have always felt ashamed asking people for money. Anything would help, even 5.00. It's a humbling request, but I still believe there are kind, good -hearted people out there. Thank you for listening.
Love, Amy
To all of you that have donated, I can't thank you enough from the bottom of my heart.
