I’ve worked hard all my life — over 30 years paying taxes, providing for my children, and never asking for a thing. Then, one silly mistake cost me everything. I took some food home from and I lost my job, I am so ashamed to have to ask which is why my face is blurred and for the past 10 weeks I’ve been waiting for benefits that still haven’t come. I have paid between £400 and £500 in tax and national insurance every single month and they give nothing in return I wonder if I went to the job centre in a rubber boat that might get me somewhere I’m watching the bills pile up, the cupboards empty, and the worry in my kids’ eyes grow. I’ve always been the one helping others, but now I’m the one who needs help. I’m not looking for luxury — just enough to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table until I can get back on my feet. Please, if you can spare anything, even the smallest amount, it would mean more than words can say. From a desperate dad trying to keep his family afloat — thank you for your kindness.
