Help Protect Abortion Access in Texas

An extreme abortion ban took effect in Texas on September 1, 2021. This law bans almost all abortion care--before most people even know that they are pregnant. This is outrageous and will hurt people living with low incomes and Black and Latinx people most. The National Abortion Hotline is helping patients get care in Texas quickly, if that’s possible under this law, and helping those who can't get care to find a clinic in another state and helping them book and pay for their travel. We need your help.
On the National Abortion Hotline, we provide thousands of callers each year with unbiased information about abortion care. We provide patients with holistic case management support, financial assistance, and travel-related assistance for their abortion procedure. As a result of the ban in Texas, we expect tens of thousands of people will need resources to find an out-of-state abortion provider and financial assistance to afford the unexpected travel for their care.
According to a recent analysis by the Guttmacher Institute, if most legal care is shutdown, people in Texas could be forced to travel 14 times farther for abortion care. Put another way, that would increase the drive time by nearly 3.5 hours each way on average (if driving nonstop at 70 miles per hour) and could require an overnight stay and, even then, the next nearest clinic would likely be in another state hostile to abortion rights. Other patients may need to fly to cities like Albuquerque, Tulsa, Las Vegas, or Chicago to obtain timely abortion care.
You can help offset some of these burdens by donating to the Dr. Tiller Patient Assistance Fund to help cover procedure and travel-related expenses. Your gift of:
- $25 provides a gift card to cover lunch for a patient after their abortion while they travel back to Texas
- $75 provides a pre-paid gas card to help a patient who needs to drive to Kansas to get an abortion
- $100 provides one night in a hotel for a patient who needs to stay overnight in Albuquerque while accessing an abortion
- $250 provides a roundtrip plane ticket for a patient to fly from Houston to Chicago to obtain a first-trimester abortion
- $550 provides one Texas patient’s first-trimester abortion care in a surrounding state
It was already extremely difficult to obtain an abortion in Texas before this ban, and patients there face countless unnecessary hurdles. This new law prohibits nearly all abortions in the state and leaves the majority of patients with few or no options. Help support the thousands of patients in Texas who will be forced to travel out of state by this dangerous, extreme abortion ban. Thank you so much for your support.
