Protecting Nature and Keeping Canadians Healthy

SAVE OUR FUTURE.

As COVID-19 forces our governments to radically change the society that we live in, we cannot refute the claim that change is necessary. However, many countries have reversed the decades of hard work and efforts of environmentalists in just a few months. The solution to the COVID-19 crisis is not to ignore the impending issue of climate change but rather to focus on one issue without disregarding the other. Our parks are already a struggling industry plagued by deteriorating trails and rampant illegal poaching. Canadian protected wildlife areas play a fundamental role in not only protecting nature and reducing pollution but also benefit the health and well-being of our fellow citizens. This is supported by a quote from an article written by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, "Many of the root causes of climate change also increase the risk of pandemics. Deforestation, which occurs mostly for agricultural purposes, is the largest cause of habitat loss worldwide. Loss of habitat forces animals to migrate and potentially contact other animals or people and share germs." (Bernstein, 2020). Environmental organizations require our support to protect our collective ecological and cultural values. We all live on this Earth and therefore, it is our responsibility to keep our world green.

What is the Canadian Park and Wilderness Society?

The Canadian Park and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is a nationwide charity that has dedicated itself to protecting Canada's forests, waters and parks while focusing on creating ecologically protected areas to safeguard the natural biodiversity of wildlife. They are Canada's voice for wilderness protection. CPAWS has successfully helped to protect over half a million square kilometres of land. CPAWS’s vision is to protect and conserve half of Canada’s public land and water for the benefit of both wildlife and humans. To achieve this, they work collaboratively with governments, local communities, industry, and indigenous peoples to preserve our country’s natural landscapes and unique wildlife.

Why should you donate to our fundraiser?

In this dire situation, COVID-19 has caught the absolute attention of Canadians, turning away their focus from the many issues that have troubled nature and our planet Earth for many decades. Many governments have disregarded how their actions may have consequences on our environment. Through their actions, they have disregarded the efforts of their citizens and actively allows the decades of struggle to reduce emissions to be practically redundant. As stated by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, climate change, air pollution, and deforestation can indirectly increase the risk of pandemics and the spread of infections. It is extremely crucial that we do not forget about climate change, as combating it may avert another outbreak. We can also take advantage of this opportunity to make smart investments to protect our economy, wildlife, and other human beings. Through supporting the Canadian Park and Wilderness Society, we commit to taking a big step towards a greener future.

Where will the money you donate go?

100% of your generous donation will go to the Canadian Park and Wilderness Society.

How will your donation help our parks and nature?

With your charitable donation, the Canadian Park and Wilderness Society will be able to provide wildlife in parks with space to feed and raise their young, and exist with minimal human intervention, protect Canada’s marine ecosystems from industrial activities, and work with the government to reduce greenhouse gases across industries. CPAWS will also have the financial means to safeguard species such as polar bears from urban sprawl, create conservation corridors to allow the movement of wildlife between protected areas, and organize public outreach events in communities to educate them on the importance of environmental protection and care, increase public awareness, and guide them on the knowledge of conservation and biodiversity issues. It doesn’t stop there, however. CPAWS does much more than this - you can find all their works through their website.
