My sister and her husband are front-line ER and hospital doctors at two major Bay Area hospitals.
ICUs are or will shortly be at capacity with COVID patients, yet they and their colleagues are running out of protective gear and are reusing masks and face shields.
This campaign is to raise funds for protective gear for front-line staff at Bay Area hospitals.
Things are critical, and we're at the point where the CDC is suggesting use of bandannas and scarfs if masks aren't available.
My sister is frantically having me search for filters/masks online, which are not only hard to find, but also expensive. For example, Amazon is selling one set of filters for $62 (www.amazon.com/dp/B07HZ5PRMW). Her colleagues are in the same situation, paying for protective gear out-of-pocket. It's just not sustainable.
I asked my sister about face shields and she told me her backup plan was swimming goggles.
They are also buying life insurance, as are her colleagues. And as you can imagine, work has been non-stop, so overtime child care costs have skyrocketed.
Our front-line medical personnel need our support.
Not only for the risk they are taking, but because if they start getting sick, no one will be left to take care of our parents or grandparents.
Donations will go only toward:
- n95 masks
- regular masks
- face shields
- gloves
- other protective gear
- food
- cleaning supplies
P.S. - if you bought masks for the fire season and no longer need them, drop them off to a local hospital or neighbor who works at one. No donation is too small.
Here are just a few pictures of our heroes at work (all taken within the last few days):

GoFundMe Required Disclosure:
Who you are and where you’re from: My name is Chi Cheung. Born in HK, Canadian citizen and American permanent resident. Engineer (former) and lawyer practicing for 12 years in NYC now. See: www.linkedin.com/in/cheungchi
Your relationship or contact to the parties you're raising funds for: I am raising funds for protective gear (primarily n95 or kn95 masks) for my sister and her husband and their colleagues at two Bay Area hospitals.
How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible): Sourcing channels for masks are being developed in real-time (not just for me, but for everyone across the nation). A team of volunteers is helping me with sourcing/acquisition. The funds will be spent on masks from different channels, to optimize: speed of delivery, quality of mask, price per mask, and assurance against fraud. Some channels are direct connections with manufacturers in China, which have minimum purchase requirements; the sourcing strategy accounts for this.
Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiary/ies: I'm fronting all the money for now and will figure out how to withdraw the funds from the campaign when I have time.
