A PPE Intubating Box for ER or ICU Physicians to Intubate Sick Covid-19 Patients
Our Goal is to provide Emergency Room (ER) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) physicians, free of charge, critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to care for extremely ill COVID-19 pandemic patients.
COVID-19 can cause severely ill patients to be placed on a ventilator in order to breath. To prepare, ER and ICU physicians must first position a breathing tube, by a procedure called intubation.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, intubation is considered the highest risk for healthcare worker exposure, contamination and infection.
A see-through enclosure to help protect healthcare workers from virus exposure was described in a recent article entitled “Barrier Enclosure during Endotracheal Intubation ” published April 3, 2020 in the New England Journal of Medicine.
This intubating box is placed around the patient’s head and upper chest with holes to allow the intubation procedure to be performed and limit viral exposure, as pictured above.
As it is extremely difficult for hospitals to process purchasing equipment during these trying times, our company, Gen 3 LLC, has been set up to manufacture and provide intubation boxes free of charge to ER and ICU physicians that request one.
Funding will enable Gen 3 LLC to provide 500 or more boxes. If you are an ER or ICU physician (or know someone) that will potentially perform intubation in COVID-19 patients and would like to obtain one of these intubating boxes, please email your request: [email redacted].
