My pal Mama Bear and her child are IN NEED. Mama Bear is being kept anonymous for her safety.
MESSAGE FROM MAMA BEAR:
I’m a person you might know, might not know at all, have previously loved, or are actively loving right now. Wow, what a spectrum. I identify as a lot of things. My pronouns are she & her. I identify deeply as a mom, & a survivor of domestic violence. Maybe, you’re like, yeah but, ONE: how? And TWO: which ones? ONE...Think of it as believing you are in a hot tub only to realize you’re really being boiled alive. And TWO...All of them. It was a secret I protected. I was blackmailed during divorce proceedings, grieving the sudden loss of a parent, managing PPD, PPPD, and raising a toddler alone. I was very afraid and 50-50 custody felt appropriate. I was wrong.
My exposure to harm is diminishing, but my kid’s is accelerating. Science calls it Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). ACEs cause serious illness and diminish defensive decision-making well into adulthood. Maybe you can personally attest to that. This formerly married human, your (new) friend, me, needs your help protecting her young child from continual emotional and physical harm.
This is possible and we will make this happen. How? The family that borne me and the ones that chose me, suggest we work together to raise money for legal fees and a lifeline. Like many of us, money is tighter than ever due to this unforgiving pandemic. If COVID-19 has caused you sorrow, I hold you in my heart. I have been piecing my income together with minimum-age jobs and clerical work. I was disabled by debilitating chronic pain and spent most of the summer in the hospital. EDD has denied me ALL benefits because of my part-time employment.
WE all make it work somehow, as I have done, until I received confirmation that my child is unsafe when not in my care.
We are “in the system” now- meaning Child Protective Services is on the scene and I am navigating the social service landscape. Even if I end up with a public defense attorney rather than hiring mown own (yes- I said DEFENSE- when a child is experiencing abuse and CSP enters the scene, both parents are Defendants. The state is here to protect the child. That puts me in a role of defendant, even though I am seeking to protect my child from harm that they are experiencing outside of my care)- I will be incurring a great deal of expenses on this journey, from legal expenses to the costs of a variety of classes and courses that will be mandated by the state as this unfolds.
Will you please help me as I protect my child and try to survive financially while doing so? Your gift of any size is so treasured. I’ve never done this before, so I’m guessing 85% of your donations will go to expenses related to the court and 15% will go to basic costs of living. Somebody’s single mom has been keeping bellies full and a roof overhead with less than $2,500 a month in Los Angeles. See? I’m a fighter. We all are. Come be in our corner and see that we get out of this without further injury.
