Protecting nature from home

Despite the global COVID-19 emergency, we keep on working to maintain our conservation projects, help us continue with our labor.

The last two decades our organizations have worked together for the conservation of sea turtles in southern Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. Members from local and international communities have helped us developing, continuing, and consolidating several long-term conservation projects: nesting sea turtle research and conservation, spotted snapper’s sustainable fishery, and environmental education and awareness. Since 2018, several community-based projects and initiatives began to be carried out as the result of a series of social needs. Currently, we have added to our conservation projects: a reforestation program, art and environmental projects conducted as non-formal education for children, and we are now part of a project that promotes an appropriate management of solid waste with the reduction of single-use plastics; which is a pioneering effort in the area.

From the beginning, we have built and established very important relationships focused on biodiversity conservation with people from the communities where we work, research teams and several international volunteers. Each season a large number of people with a conservation and environmental driven mindset visit our projects, which results in numerous job opportunities and financial income for the local families that participate and collaborate with our conservation programs. All our accomplishments have strengthened our bonds through to the support and teamwork that year after year we are able to achieve thanks to you. Given the current global situation due to COVID-19, our local staff, the essential piece of the success of our projects, has been negatively affected. This is why we need your help and invite you to fight with us to face this situation in the best way possible.

There are not bad times if we continue fighting together.

All funds collected in this campaign will be used to the sea turtle nesting program in three of our focal localities, for the maintenance of our nursery of native tree species, reforestation for water protection and financial sustainability of the families involved.

Organizations involved: CREMA, Turtle Trax and UESPRA.
