Whistleblowers risk everything to tell the truth. They expose corruption, fraud, and wrongdoing at the highest levels — and too often, they pay a devastating price.
My name is Everett Stern. Many know me as the HSBC whistleblower, who exposed billions of dollars in illicit funds flowing to terrorist organizations and drug cartels. That decision nearly destroyed my life. But it also led to accountability — HSBC paid a $1.92 billion fine — and my story has been featured in Rolling Stone, Netflix’s Dirty Money, and HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Watch Here.
Now, like so many whistleblowers, I am under attack again.
I am facing a coordinated campaign of harassment, intimidation, and disinformation. I have received serious threats, including demands that I publicly discredit myself or face further retaliation. My family and I are being targeted and stalked, and I fear for our safety every day.
At the same time, I am engaged in multiple federal lawsuits necessary to defend myself and hold those responsible accountable. But my resources are depleted. I have already been forced to represent myself in one case because I cannot afford local counsel. The financial strain of ongoing litigation is overwhelming, and without support, I cannot continue this fight.
That’s why I have partnered with Whistleblowers of America, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting truth-tellers under attack. Together, we are launching this campaign to protect whistleblowers — starting with my case, and extending help to others who face retaliation.
Here’s how your donation will be used:
- Legal defense costs — funds will go directly into my attorney’s trust account to retain counsel and cover court expenses so I can continue to defend myself.
- Support for other whistleblowers — 25% of all funds raised will go directly to Whistleblowers of America, providing resources and legal support to whistleblowers nationwide.
No funds go into my personal bank account. This campaign is transparent, ethical, and dedicated to protecting those who risk everything to speak the truth.
This is the hardest period of my life since blowing the whistle on HSBC. I am exhausted, outmatched, and genuinely fearful for my safety. But I know the power of community, and I know there are people who still believe in standing up for what’s right.
