Protect Sophie from Blindness—Join Our Cause

Hello everyone! My name is Tiffani, but I’m setting up this fund to help my friends Melissa and Casey and their new fur baby.

Story: Melissa and Casey recently adopted a new furry addition to their home they have named Sophie. She’s, we’re pretty sure, a 2-year-old Siamese mix cat they adopted from our local animal control.
During the adoption process, they were told that Sophie was in good health and was showing no signs of any illness during their visit. But as soon as they brought her home, they found that was not the case at all.
Immediately, they noticed drainage coming from Sophie’s eyes, some coughing, and horrible diarrhea.
Worried they’d brought home a sick cat to their current cat, they took her straight to the vet the next day. They found out she’d been running a fever as well and that this wasn’t something just brought on overnight or from the stress of being in a new place. Meaning she’d been sick at Animal Control and they’d lied to my friends.
Now after some time, some tests, and some meds, it’s looking like Sophie’s eye(s) might be in even worse shape than previously thought from the infections.
Sophie’s left eye has what looks to be a sequestrum spot on it, which could also happen to the right eye if not treated. Sequestrum is basically necrotic corneal cells that, if treated as soon as it starts, could go away on its own. But if not, it grows and will eventually go deep into the eye, causing intense pain and ending in blindness. Sophie’s spot is sadly larger than we believe could resolve on its own. Treatment at this point is a surgery that my friends just don’t have the funds to pay for, especially since they’re also deep into wedding planning for their day in November.
My friends are already in love with this little girl who chose them at their first visit and want nothing more than to do right by her. But they worry they won’t be able to give her the best life if they can’t fix her eye.
They’re considering the possibility of having to surrender her back to a no-kill shelter just so she can get the medical care she deserves.
I want to try and see if we could raise the funds they’d need for the surgery so they don’t have to give her up. Sophie was already a surrender by her previous owner and none of us want to see her go through that again.
Please help us save Sophie’s eye and stay in the forever home she chose with my friends.
