Stop the River Walk is a community group in Riverbank, CA, dedicated to protecting our town’s farmland, green spaces, and the unique character that makes our community special. Recently, a proposed development has threatened to remove Agricultural Resource Conservation protections in the project area, significantly shifting longstanding General Plan policies that have guided our city’s growth for years. This development would add pressure to local infrastructure systems, increasing sewer and water burdens and raising maintenance costs that would ultimately be borne by taxpayers. More development also means more traffic congestion and air pollution, especially given the limited public transit options in our area. Perhaps most concerning, expansion into the Stanislaus River corridor threatens irreplaceable riparian habitat and biodiversity at a time when such ecosystems are of national and global importance.
Our group stands for protecting farmland, green space, and the scenery that define Riverbank’s identity. We believe in ensuring growth that is equitable, sustainable, and aligned with existing plans and infrastructure capacity. We are committed to empowering local voices, ensuring that residents—especially those within Riverbank’s city limits—have a meaningful say through democratic processes about where and how the city grows. We are also dedicated to transparently monitoring proposed changes, holding decision-makers accountable, and enabling informed community engagement to protect quality of life and utility rates for all.
To achieve these goals, we need your help. Funds raised will go toward costs for signs, marketing, community outreach, mail and email campaigns, advertising, legal fees if needed, and educational materials. Your support will help us inform and mobilize the community, ensuring that everyone has a voice in shaping Riverbank’s future. Please consider contributing and sharing our cause to help us make a difference together.
