TONIGHT!! Zoning hearing/Board of Commissioners meeting is postponed for Wednesday, JUNE 4 at 8PM at the Springfield Country Club. Our group was contacted by the Township and the Developer's lawyers to request this pushback. Please attend, and spread the word to others in Springfield, urging them to attend, too.

Dear Neighbors,

We need YOUR help to protect our quality of life and fight the over-development of the little remaining green space in Springfield (Coventry Woods/ formerly known as the Elocin Tract).

Please join us if any of the following things are a concern to you and your family:
  • More traffic on State Road and in our neighborhoods with another red-light at State Rd and Weymouth Rd
  • Flooding and water mitigation issues downstream of the Coventry Woods property, including the Springfield Swim Club
  • Your property value going down with commercial development in our back yards
  • Light and noise pollution in our neighborhoods
  • Additional strain on township resources and schools
  • Potential for increased taxes as happened in Ridley Park with residents facing 17% increased taxes after the hospital couldn’t foot the bill
  • Deforestation and grading of one of the few remaining green spaces in Springfield containing multiple creeks and wildlife habitats

For four decades neighbors in Springfield have been fighting the over-development of this land. From the builder’s plans in the early 80s to put up high-rise apartment buildings with hundreds of townhomes (Elocin Tract fought at the PA Supreme Court ), to plans in 2018 , to recent plans for Christiana Care's boutique 10-bed hospital (with 10-bed overflow), a surgical center and 84 townhomes.

Neighbors have been spreading the news, meeting together weekly, handing out flyers, reaching out to our commissioners and attending township meetings to learn more about the project and how it is going to impact our community, but it isn't enough.

Some of us have decided the best way to move forward and make an impact on the future of this land is to create an association. Concerned Neighbors of Coventry Woods is a group meant to represent those who will be impacted by any future aspect of this development plan. As we've been trying to gather information about details of the project, we've been hitting some walls and not getting the answers we are entitled to with such a large project in our back yards. As a group of concerned neighbors, we have decided to hire legal representation to speak on our behalf and navigate this development project in a way that will have a real impact.

We are all busy and don't have the time to do all of the research and attend all of the meetings. Your donation will go toward legal fees to pay an expert who knows how to navigate real estate/zoning/development law to help protect our neighborhood, safety, quality of life and environment. Please make a donation to help protect our neighborhood and maintain the Springfield Community!

With over 1,000 signatures on the change.org petition opposed to the development as it is, more than 500 families of the Springfield Swim Club who may not be able to use their memberships due to flooding, and many families concerned with the impacts of this project, it would only take a small donation from each of us to pay for this representation!

We cannot fight this as individuals, but united together with legal representation who can navigate this issue, OUR VOICES WILL BE HEARD!

Please make a donation (big or small!) to Concerned Neighbors of Coventry Woods to help ensure we can maintain our community as it is. Donations will go toward our legal representation and spreading the word (flyers, door-hangers, street signs).
