I am Shari and I am in Clear Lake, IA. Three and one-half years ago, I fed a feral mama cat that had babies next door. She moved them, and I did not see her for a year. She started coming to be fed. Then, there were babies born next door again. She brought them to learn how to eat. We trapped two. I kept one, and my son and family took one. We could not trap Mama... she was too smart for us! So, the next year, there were more kittens. They are 2 now. So, still here are Mama, 1 from litter 2, and 4 from litter 3 for a total of 6. I have had them all TNR'd (trapped, shots, vaccinated, and some are microchipped). I signed paperwork promising to return them to their community and not bring them anywhere (or in the house). They are community cats. They have been born and raised in this neighborhood and are being fed by several.
Imagine my surprise when an officer stopped to let us know someone had complained and outdoor cats are not allowed in our city. That I had to quit food and shelter, and if they needed to, they would trap them! Many cities are helping to pay for the TNR in order to keep pest populations down and slow down the population count of cats. So, in order to make sure these cats are safe, I need to build or buy some sort of enclosure for outside. We had already planned on building a well-insulated, 6-hole house. Two of these cats will allow us to pet them, but no one else. Four will eat nearby but not accept treats from hands or petting. I have paid for the TNR and a couple of houses and a lot of food. I can't afford to do more. Can you help me save these babies?
