Protect our Lakes and Rivers
Donation protected
Please help our efforts to protect our Lakes and Rivers by contributing monies that will be used for a legal challenge to Laws protecting Introduced Species. All monies will be used to protect our Special Areas of Protection and the development of our Salmonid Populations.
We are asking Salmon and Trout Anglers to support our efforts by contributing to the Go Fund me page, our Special Areas of Conservation are very important for the Future of the Salmonid populations and are already protected under the Habitats directive and Water Framework Directive which have been largely ignored by the powers that be. The Corrib Guardians intend to insure that these Directives are adhered to in full, and will challenge any Legislation which endangers the Fish stocks in all SAC,s in Ireland. The legislation protecting Invasive fish; applies to all Sac’s and must be removed.
Lough Corrib Salmonid Anglers have formed a company called Corrib Environmental Guardians CLG. Corrib Anglers are very concerned that we are losing our Salmonid populations. Salmon numbers are at a critically low level and Arctic Char have been wiped out on Lough Corrib, there is evidence that Introduced Invasive Species are having a huge impact on Salmonids, yet these invasives are protected by two bye laws 806 which protects all non-native species: in the event that somebody introduces a new specie; they are automatically protected by this Law. Bye Law 809 confers protection to Pike, a non-benign specie which was introduced to Ireland and has rapidly spread to new waters.
Pike in particular predate heavily on Juvenile Salmonids in Rivers and Lakes they have largely contributed to the decline in Salmon numbers. Anglers have been campaigning for over seven years for proper protection and development of our Designated Lakes with little success, we have canvassed Politician’s and contributed to all Public Consultations highlighting the issues yet we have been unable to affect the change that is clearly needed, we now intend to challenge these Bye Laws through the courts.
