Protect Our Family From Persecution and Separation

Nelson and Izys are a father and daughter duo who arrived in the United States from Venezuela on Izys's second birthday. They traveled across Central America on foot, seeking a better life. Nelson, as a single father, traveled alone with her for several months, not knowing anyone in the United States.

Nelson faces severe persecution in Venezuela that is life threatening, stemming from his time as a political protestor. The Venezuelan government is corrupt and hunts those that speak out against it, rigging elections and killing off members of the opposing political parties. In Venezuela, he was violently punished for using free speech, which is protected under the USA's First Amendment. Here, he was hoping for more freedoms promised by our legal system, but that has been far from his story. He has been in the United States for two years, monitored by a GPS device because he entered alone with a young child. Now, both him and his 3-year-old Izys are at further risk.

Immigrant families are being ripped apart by simply showing up at their immigration appointments. Our lawyer and our family fear that at Nelson's upcoming appointment in August, he will be unlawfully detained and separated from both his daughter and American girlfriend, who Izys now knows as her mother. If Nelson is detained, he may be sent back to Venezuela, where he could be immediately abused by the government once more.

We are looking for a way to keep our family together and keep Nelson and Izys safe. We have several legal options we are considering, but cannot complete any of them without help. This money will go towards fees for a lawyer and for application costs after Nelson and his girlfriend are married. Every step of the immigration process costs a significant amount of money, and we cannot afford it on our own.

Nelson e Izys son un dúo de padre e hija que llegaron a los Estados Unidos desde Venezuela en el segundo cumpleaños de Izys. Viajaron a pie por Centroamérica en busca de una vida mejor. Nelson, como padre soltero, viajó solo con ella durante varios meses, sin conocer a nadie en Estados Unidos.

Nelson enfrenta una severa persecución en Venezuela que pone en riesgo su vida, debido a su época como manifestante político. El gobierno venezolano es corrupto y persigue a quienes hablan en su contra, manipulando elecciones y asesinando a miembros de los partidos políticos opuestos. En Venezuela, fue castigado violentamente por hacer uso de la libertad de expresión, que está protegida por la Primera Enmienda de Estados Unidos. Aquí esperaba más libertades prometidas por nuestro sistema legal, pero eso estaba lejos de ser su historia. Lleva dos años en Estados Unidos, monitoreado por un dispositivo GPS porque entró solo con un niño pequeño. Ahora, tanto él como su hija Izys, de 3 años, corren mayor riesgo.

Las familias inmigrantes están siendo destrozadas simplemente por presentarse a sus citas de inmigración. Nuestro abogado y nuestra familia temen que en el próximo nombramiento de Nelson en agosto, sea detenido ilegalmente y separado tanto de su hija como de su novia estadounidense, a quien Izys ahora conoce como su madre. Si Nelson es detenido, es posible que lo envíen de regreso a Venezuela, donde el gobierno podría volver a abusar de él inmediatamente.

Estamos buscando una manera de mantener unida a nuestra familia y mantener seguros a Nelson e Izys.
