Residents of Purdon Rd. Nevada County, California, are coming together to oppose the location of a proposed Verizon cell tower on Purdon Rd. at the cross street of Miller Rd. While we support the need for communication infrastructure, our community is deeply concerned about the placement of this tower in a densely populated area renowned for its natural beauty, agricultural heritage, and vital access routes to state park lands. The proposed site is inconsistent with the character of our neighborhood and threatens to devalue property, disrupt the rural aesthetic, and undermine the cohesion that makes our community special.

Environmental and safety concerns are at the forefront of our opposition. The tower would cause visual pollution, increase fire risk from electrical failures, and potentially block the only evacuation route for residents in the event of a fire. It poses risks to wildlife through collision hazards, light disorientation, and RF radiation effects on birds, bats, insects, and flora. Current guidelines are inadequate for protecting our environment, and light pollution from tower lighting would disturb nocturnal wildlife and impair night sky visibility. Noise from maintenance and generators would further disrupt the peaceful neighborhood we cherish.

Funds raised will be used to cover legal fees, appeals (to appeal the may 13th hearing decision is a filing fee of $1,975.80) outreach, and legal counsel as we work to advocate for an alternate location for the tower. There are 28 homes within 1200 feet of the proposed site, and we need your help to urge the county and Verizon to find a solution that respects the health, safety, and wellbeing of our community, wetlands, wildlife, and neighbors.
