Protect kids from homicide risk
Donation protected
Please help protect two amazing kids who deserve to live a full life!
I am a single mom of two very talented and empathetic kids, ages 10 and 14. I left my ex-husband and father of my children in 2017. Earlier this year I discovered my ex was actively suicidal and seeking guns and other means of harming himself and possibly others online. I am currently seeking protection in family court, asking for him to have supervised visits and be prevented from picking up the children from school, and prevented from possessing or buying weapons while he gets a comprehensive mental health evaluation. This is necessary so we can figure out what needs to happen to get him the help he needs while keeping the children safe. Based on past history and this new information, I am concerned that my ex may be unstable and considering harming the children before taking his own life.
Due to errors and misunderstandings by the court that we are in the process of getting corrected (for example, assuming that if they haven't physically harmed anyone yet, that they cannot be a danger to themselves or others), which created long delays and multiple hearings, the children still do not have protection. My ex is still legally able to purchase weapons and pick up the children from school. After spending nearly $30,000 on legal support for this situation, I have nearly exhausted my savings. Other than child support, I do not receive any other financial support from my ex or from anyone else. I need help to continue to seek safety for my children. The police cannot do anything to help with this because no crime has been committed (yet).
While any amount donated will help, I anticipate the following costs coming up soon:
- $5,000 to pay my attorney to prepare and speak to a judge about correcting errors made by the court - scheduled for the last week of September.
- $5,000 for my attorney and an expert on mental illness and homicide risk to children to review evaluation results and provide recommendations or education for the court.
- $5,000 to prepare for and present recommendations to the court for next steps after evaluation results are back.
I need to keep my identity secret because I don't want my kids to stumble across this information online and get traumatized by it. All they know is that their dad is having some trouble taking good care of himself and a judge is looking into what's best for them right now while dad's doctors help him get better.
Please share my story with your networks and if you can afford to donate, I would be so grateful. My kids deserve the right to live and not be put at unnecessary risk because of legal system loopholes and the ease of access to guns by those who are mentally ill. If you can't donate, your prayers or good thoughts for protection would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
How I discovered my ex’s situation and search history
I discovered my ex’s search history after the kids returned from a visit with him. He had given my son one of his old phones because my son’s phone was having trouble. My son had been using the phone while at his father’s and asked me to help him set it up with his SIM card after he got back. As I was doing so, I decided to check up on the phone usage history since it didn’t yet have parental controls set up yet and I like to keep tabs on my kids’ use of electronics and internet access. That is when I found these searches. At first, I wondered if my son had made them, but then as I dug further, I saw that the searches had occurred on devices my children didn’t have, around my ex’s home, on days that the children were not there (Google search history provides all this information on each search incident, unless you turn it off). I realized the old phone he had given my son was still connected to my ex’s Google account, Amazon account, and other accounts, which were still actively synching with his other devices. I could see his internet search history going back years.
The searches which were conducted earlier this year include:
- How to kill using suffocation with inert gases, specifically nitrogen which is harder to obtain compared to other gases, but which is undetectable in autopsy, unlike other gases
- Amazon searches for nitrogen gas equipment
- Nearby gun stores – and made an online purchase from one
- School hours and after school care hours for the children – concerning because he never picks them up from school due to living 90 minutes away
- Searches about being laid off and job hunting – turns out he was recently let go from his 20+ years at a large software development company
I also discovered that while we were in the middle of our divorce in 2018 while his time with the children was fully supervised due to investigations of abuse, he had researched AR-15 assault rifles, silencers, high-capacity magazines, how many bullets are in a police pistol, and armor-piercing ammo, among other disturbing things. The gun information searches and gun store look ups are especially concerning because my ex has always been very anti-gun.
