Hearts of the Hills: funding early warning systems
Donation protected
Hearts of the Hills is a community-driven effort to raise the funds needed to develop a comprehensive flood early warning system for Kerr County.
This will include:
• Real-time river level gauges;
• Rainfall sensors throughout the watershed;
• Outdoor sirens to warn campers and residents;
• An integrated alert system to send cell and web-based warnings; and
• Support for county officials and responders to coordinate evacuations
This project was proposed nearly a decade ago, but grants were denied, funding stalled, and priorities shifted. And there are countless articles explaining the issue, including details of the funding that was requested but never received.
We are not here to blame anyone. Just here to fix a problem.
How? By taking matters into our own hands — for our kids, our camps, and our community. Alongside the efforts to make this a reality, Coleman Jamison and I collaborated to come up with a solution that will help play an integral role for years to come in the Kerr County community.
This is not a political undertaking. We are Texans, hurting just like you.
Be the change you want to see in the world. Whether you grew up tubing the river, singing camp songs under the cypress trees, sending your kids to the Guadalupe River each summer, or simply believe in protecting lives — please give what you can.
100% of donations will go toward installation, equipment, and the creation of local emergency infrastructure and support. Donations will be managed in partnership with Kerr County local officials. We will ensure the County is able to install the early warning and detection systems it attempted to fund a decade ago.
Help us make sure the only thing rising in the Hill Country is our commitment to each other and our commitment to safety. Hearts of the Hills was created because - as they say in Texas - what starts here changes the world.
