We're raising funds to help Laurelanne.media cover the cost of resolving a copyright demand involving an image used in editorial independent music coverage.

Laurelanne.media is a small independent music publication built around emerging artists. It operates at a monthly budget deficit and survives because we believe independent music deserves real coverage, even when the money does not love us back.

Recently, we received a copyright demand seeking $8,000 in damages over an image that appeared alongside an editorial review. We removed the image from public display immediately after receiving notice and retained legal counsel to respond responsibly.

After legal review and communication with the opposing firm, we settled the matter for $6,000 without any admission of wrongdoing. We reached this resolution to avoid the risk, stress, and potentially much higher expense of further legal escalation. The initial attorney retainer was $1,500, and we may incur additional legal costs through final resolution.

For a small independent publication, this is a major financial hit. This fundraiser is not about attacking anyone or relitigating the dispute. It is about helping Laurelanne.media survive this cost and continue supporting independent music.

Funds raised will be used for the settlement payment, attorney fees, legal review, correspondence, and related costs connected to this matter.

If the total raised exceeds the final legal and settlement costs, we will refund donors pro rata or donate the remaining balance to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides emergency financial assistance to musicians and music-industry workers.
