Young women need us in their corner—now more than ever.
We are learning, in real time, what happens when girls are not protected. What is being uncovered is devastating— and it is not random. Girl-centered and girl mental health organizations are two of the least funded causes in the nonprofit sector. Underinvestment in girls is not an accident. It's a systemic pattern with consequences.
Right now one thing is clear: investing in girls is not a nice-to. It's a have-to. It's now. This is for our daughters. Our younger selves. Each other. An opportunity to do the next right thing.
What you need to know: Her Story is a nonprofit protecting the mental health of adolescent girls. Girls aren't at risk during adolescence — adolescence is the risk. Starting around 13, girls are twice as likely as boys to experience clinical depression. At 14, girls hit their lowest levels of self-confidence. And the second leading cause of death for adolescents is suicide.
What we're doing about it: We lead with healthy social media use — because girls spend an average of 5.3 hours a day online, nearly twice the threshold linked to mental health disorders. We use a harm reduction model, training older teen girls to help younger ones protect their wellbeing on line. In five years, we've reached 400+ girls with our free program. 100% of girls surveyed said they'd recommend Her Story to a friend.
What we need: With girl-centered programs being pulled from schools and chronic underfunding, we're turning to you. Every dollar matters.
When you give to Her Story, you are protecting girls right now. Your contribution helps bring 250 girls to our upcoming event — a full day of free mental health resources, social media wellbeing tools, and a community that doesn't end when the event does.
All contributions are tax deductible.
