Hi everyone,
I am reaching out to share an issue affecting a residential canal here in Cocoa Beach.
The city of Cocoa Beach approved a “Special Exception” on the 18th of March. This exception allows a commercial boat touring business to load and launch a 45-foot boat carrying up to 49 tourists for eco-tours and space launch viewing three times daily with a second boat in future plans. This is commercialization of a residential canal for a business that is not needed nor desired by residents of Cocoa Beach. We must act together to reverse this decision.
A group of residents living on the canal are now appealing that decision in Circuit Court to ensure the city’s own comprehensive and land development plans were properly followed. The outcome of this appeal could set a precedent of similar commercial uses in our residential canals. The legal costs are significant. Funds contributed for the appeal will go towards attorney fees, official transcripts and other data request fees.
We are asking for your support to help fund this appeal and ensure a fair review of the decision.
This impacts all of us in our city. It affects our home values, quality of life, and a right to privacy in our low density neighborhoods. We’re concerned with the impact these tour boats will have on our canals wildlife; manatees, otters, dolphins, etc…we must act. If you are able to contribute and share this request, we would truly appreciate you.
Thank you for supporting and helping us to protect our neighborhoods.
