Help Colombian Farmers Protect Biodiversity — and Bring Their Chocolate to the U.S.

Colombia is the most biodiverse place on Earth per square mile. It is home to more than 3,400 native wild fruit and nut species—many of which have never been commercialized.

At Agnes Chocolatier Agroforestal, we’re on a mission to change that responsibly. Our goal is simple and ambitious: to transform Colombia’s biodiversity into sustainable livelihoods through chocolate.

We’ve already created over 100 bonbon varieties, including fillings made from wild fruits like sevico, coccoloba ovata Benth., a fruit so rare it is foraged in the Orinoco by canoe and has never been commercially sold—ever. It tastes like cherry limeade and makes you wonder how it isn't a household name.

The Challenge
Colombian cacao farmers and wild-fruit foragers are under constant pressure to simplify their land and incomes. Without access to fair international markets, biodiversity becomes a liability instead of a strength.

At the same time, importing artisan chocolate into the United States is expensive and complex. FDA compliance, food safety rules, labeling, and logistics create real barriers for small, mission-driven producers like us.

Without help, chocolate that protects biodiversity—and the farmers behind it—can’t reach the people who want to support it.

Why the U.S. Market Matters
Selling in the U.S. allows us to:

  • Pay farmers and foragers above commodity prices
  • Reward agroforestry, wild harvesting, and biodiversity
  • Support diverse rural incomes, not single-crop dependence
  • Create lasting demand for ingredients grown in living ecosystems
  • When ethical chocolate reaches U.S. consumers, biodiversity becomes economically viable.

What We’re Raising Funds For

Your support helps us cover the essential, upfront costs required to import chocolate into the U.S., including:
  • FDA registration and compliance
  • Food safety and labeling requirements
  • Import logistics and cold-chain transport
  • Certifications and audits for U.S. retail
  • These are one-time gifts that unlock long-term impact.

Shipping & Timing

All rewards will ship as soon as we receive our U.S. import license—as early as June or as late as January 2027, depending on regulatory timelines.

After licensing, future shipments (including clubs and gift boxes) can be scheduled for special dates, holidays, or occasions of your choosing. Please note, hot weather shipping will incur additional charges. Cold weather shipping is included.

Every contribution directly supports biodiversity, fair pay, and resilient farming systems.

If you can't or don't want to donate, that's ok too! Please support us by following our instagram or join our mailing list on our website.

The Impact

By supporting this campaign, you are helping to:
  • Keep agroforestry farms economically viable
  • Protect habitats essential to cacao and wild fruits
  • Support Colombian farmers and foragers choosing sustainability over shortcuts
  • Build a transparent, fair supply chain from forest and farm to chocolate
  • This isn’t charity. It’s investing in a future where biodiversity has a market.

If you believe chocolate should reflect the land it comes from—and that farmers shouldn’t have to destroy ecosystems to survive—we invite you to support this effort.

Thank you for standing with Colombian farmers, wild fruits, and biodiversity—one chocolate at a time.
