Protect Atticus: Legal and Medical Support Needed

Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,

I’m writing to you as a grandmother deeply concerned for my family, especially my young grandchildren, Atticus (13 months) and Dolly (3 years). A heartbreaking and unexpected situation has unfolded, and we are now in desperate need of help—both financially and through prayers.

In August, my son, daughter-in-law (DIL), and their children moved five hours away for new job opportunities. They’ve been adjusting to life in a new city, with a babysitter caring for the kids during work hours.

About a month ago, they noticed a soft spot on Atticus’ head and took him to the doctor. The doctor found a healing fracture but didn’t indicate an immediate concern. Yesterday, however, my DIL picked the kids up from the babysitter and noticed something was very wrong—Atticus was crying in a way she had never heard before. Trusting her instincts, they took him to the doctor, where they discovered a broken leg.

Atticus was transported by ambulance to a children’s hospital for further evaluation. While at the hospital, CPS became involved and began investigating. To our shock, additional X-rays revealed an old fracture in his other leg. My son and DIL are devastated, as CPS has now opened a case against them, claiming the injuries could indicate abuse.

Here’s where it gets even more concerning. We’ve recently been reminded that there’s a family history of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease) on our side. This condition causes bones to fracture easily, even from minor bumps or falls. However, we had no idea Atticus might have this disease until this latest broken leg. Unfortunately, this is often how the condition is discovered in children—through unexplained injuries that lead to medical and CPS investigations.

Atticus is showing signs of the disease, including a bluish tint to the whites of his eyes. However, the hospital informed us that testing for this condition could take weeks due to delays. In the meantime, CPS has decided that my son and I are unfit to care for the children because the older fracture occurred while the family was living in my home. As a result, CPS has moved to place the children in foster care, leaving us heartbroken and powerless.

We are desperate to hire an attorney to fight this case and bring the children home, hopefully in time for Christmas. Additionally, we need to ensure that Atticus receives the urgent medical attention he needs. Every day that passes increases the risk of further injuries if his condition goes untreated.

We are humbly asking for any financial support you can provide to help us cover legal fees. If you’re unable to contribute financially, your prayers for our family would mean the world to us. We are praying for strength, justice, and protection for these innocent children.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering our plea.

With love and gratitude,
