Stop the 25-Story High-Rise at Our Waterfront

The Blue Heron Bridge is not just another location on a map. It is one of the most treasured and internationally recognized dive sites in the world — a vibrant marine ecosystem and a gathering place for residents, families, fishermen, boaters, and visitors who cherish our coastal way of life.

Today, that legacy is at risk.

A 300-foot, 25-story condominium tower has been proposed at the base of the bridge — in direct conflict with the existing 8-story zoning that protects this unique waterfront area.

Why This Matters

Environmental Impact

Scientific studies by CSA Ocean Sciences Group confirm the presence of seagrass and coral in this diverse marine environment. Even the developer’s own expert acknowledged that the building would cast daily morning shadows over the area. Reduced sunlight threatens fragile marine habitats that depend on consistent light to survive.

Economic Risk

The Blue Heron Bridge draws divers and eco-tourists from around the globe. Local businesses — dive shops, charter operators, restaurants, and small retailers — rely on this reputation. Compromising the marine ecosystem jeopardizes the sustainable economic engine that supports Riviera Beach.

Traffic & Infrastructure Strain

Preliminary traffic analysis projects approximately 818 additional daily vehicle trips. Increased congestion at the base of the bridge will impact safety, accessibility, and the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Our Position:

We urge the City Council of Riviera Beach to uphold the existing eight-story height limit and reject this proposal. Zoning exists to protect communities, preserve environmental integrity, and ensure responsible growth.
