This fundraiser is to help Amanda stand up to her powerful and well-connected neighbors in a battle to protect her First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech.
On Monday, June 27th, a Livonia, Michigan resident added some eye catching signs to her front yard and began a peaceful one-woman dance party in protest of the U.S. Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. Wade.
Some of her neighbors, including a sitting Third Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan family judge in Detroit, were unhappy that Amanda did this in “their family neighborhood.” Here's what happened next:
Livonia Police were called to Amanda's home three times in a 24-hour period. Each time, Amanda stated that she was within her rights and in compliance with local noise ordinances. It's worth noting that last year, a Livonia resident erected a yard full of anti-gay signs that included threats of murder, but Livonia police said it was free speech and there was nothing they could do. Therefore, they did not visit the home in question.
In a private neighborhood Facebook group, offended neighbors stated, “the police can’t do anything.”
Following several days of threats on social media (We're building a legal case against you), Amanda was served with a temporary PPO for Neighbor JG, signed by the Honorable Mary Beth Scott who works closely with the sitting judge in the Third District Circuit Court Family Division.
While Neighbor JG has spent three days sitting on her porch staring at Amanda's yard for three days, Amanda has had no actual contact with Neighbor JG since before she erected the signs on June 27th. Contact prior to this has been pleasant.
Amanda's address and personal legal information have been shared by an "anonymous" account on social media.
Amanda and her husband will need to appear in court to dispute the bogus PPO. This Go Fund Me will cover legal defense for the upcoming hearing and any further action that may be initiated against her by her wealthy, powerful, and very well-connected neighbors. It's unfortunate that a sitting judge would use the bench to harass a neighbor and infringe upon someone's 1st amendment rights. Let's make sure Amanda has support in standing up to these bullies.
