Hi, my name is Ganjali, but people know me as Ali. I'm a translator from Afghanistan and sought refuge in Germany due to persecution by the Taliban. Here, I met Dr Zahra Mohammadi, a fearless crusader for women's rights. She fled our country after she was detained and tortured by the Taliban for her activism and her story has been covered by Amnesty International and Frontline Defenders. Now she is seeking your help and I'd like to share her message with you:
"My name is Zahra Mohammadi and I am the Founder of grassroots feminist movement, the Unity and Solidarity of Afghan Women. We are urgently calling on your solidarity and support.
When Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, the Unity and Solidarity of Afghan Women stood up for the rights of women and girls through street protests, online actions and statements to the international community. We stand for the rights of women and girls to education, freedom of movement, political participation and freedom from violence. We garnered media attention and international support and we have continued to work online despite the challenges we face.
The women human rights defenders who are part of our movement — the brave women who have been resisting the Taliban since day one — are in immediate danger. Many of them have survived arbitrary arrest and detention, torture, beatings and threats to them and their families for speaking out for freedom, justice, and equality.
Today, they are in grave need — whether inside Afghanistan or displaced in neighboring countries, often at risk of deportation, without shelter, food, or medical care. Some are living in hiding. Others are facing extreme psychological pressure, illness, or even life-threatening conditions like cancer without access to treatment. In some cases, our members are currently in Taliban custody and we urgently need financial guarantees to help secure their release.
We are a grassroots, women-led movement and we know every single name and face behind these stories. We are not asking for charity; we are asking you to stand with the women who refused to be silenced, who rose for all of us.
They risked everything. Now they need us. Your donation — no matter how small — will go directly to support them.
I am withholding names but the photos you see are real. These are women from our movement who marched, resisted, and paid the price. Now, it’s our turn to hold them up.
Please give what you can. Help us keep them alive — and in doing so, keep the fight for women's rights in Afghanistan alive.
We know these are hard times for many, but we do not receive any funding from international or private donors and have always been entirely volunteer-run. Your donations will help us to support:
- emergency relocation for women who have fled due to threats (safe accommodation, visas, etc)
- safe-housing for women who have gone into hiding in Afghanistan due to Taliban threats
- urgent medical expenses
- psychosocial support
Please like, share and donate. We will be forever grateful for your solidarity and support. Thank you.
