Prosthetic legs for Edwin
Allow me to introduce you to Edwin Salazar Guerra, a 16-year-old boy from Guatemala. When Edwin was 7-years old, and while visiting his uncle in his hometown: Aldea Cacahuatepeque in Ipala, his playful curiosity brought him to the roof of the house to play. When he leaned over the roof edge and held onto a high voltage cable to avoid falling from the second level roof. Immediately, his small body started to burn due to the high voltage. His grandfather who came to the rescue, pulled him off and held Edwin for a few seconds, Edwin was free of the cable, but in doing so his grandfather died. Little Edwin was saved but lost both legs and his left arm due to the severe burns.
During the two months of hospitalization, Edwin had several surgeries and recovery and her mom Lusby, 7-month pregnant, was always taking care of him, in contrast Edwin’s dad never showed up. Eventually, they would find out that he had abandoned them. Mom Lusby was left alone to care for her two children, the newly born Jason and Edwin. All of a sudden, life for them drastically changed bringing them insecurity and uncertainty.
We all can imagine her difficulties in being a single mother and having to raise and care for her two children. Nicole and I are running the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 7th, and have decided to be Edwin’s sponsors to raise funds for his prosthetic legs, as he is in need of a new pair. I plead to you, to your loving heart, and kindness; let’s help Edwin, he really needs us.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 for Edwin’s new prosthetic legs. We like you to share this information with your friends, relatives, co-workers, your church friends and also share the Go-fund-me account via social media.Spread the word via email or write a blog post...etc.
