Prosthetic leg and home improvements
Hi my name is Jillian Hurley in 1987 I got injured while on active duty in the United States Air Force. I have had around 18 give or take ( I have lost count)reconstructive surgeries on my left leg, I have also had 4 total knee replacements and a couple of anti fungal spacers Implanted in the last year. Right now I’m sitting in Sydney, waiting to get my left leg amputated, it’s the only viable option I have left, if I would like to get on with a normal life. I wasn’t worried about the surgery since it’s a service connected disability, it will be paid for 100% by the Department of veterans affairs or covered under my Foreign Medical Program.
WRONG!!!!!!!! Well it is covered but the hospital won’t accept a letter of payment guarantee from the United States VA, so I have to pay it out of pocket first then get reimbursed at a later date. So far we have enough to cover 5 days in hospital and 2 weeks rehab, if nothing goes wrong. Then we are going to have to get hand rails and equipment installed in the house, purchase a wheel chair, travel back and forth to the specialist for follow ups,oh and eventually I’d like to be able to get a prosthetic leg. All of this will cost a lot of money, money we don’t have just sitting around. We accepted a loan from a friend to pay for the surgery and the first 2 weeks in rehab, but like I said after that we are going to need help.
I’m calling out to anyone and everyone, if you know of anyone in the us government that might be able to help us cut thru some international red tape. Please reach out to me.
Hardest thing in the world is to ask strangers, friends and family for help, but that’s what I’m doing. Those of you that know me know that I’m fiercely independent and strong just like my momma brought me up. I’m a fighter just like her, so this won’t keep me down long but it is going to be tough, not just on me but on my husband also.
thanks in advance for any help you can give or offer.
Jillian
