Hi, My name is John. During 2024 I was 13st and my life was good. I was trying to keep fit, boxing and swimming once a week. In Feb 2024 I had a pain in my back and assumed I had injured it during my exercise. After a couple of weeks the pain subsided and I thought nothing more of it.
during a Long drive I was listening to the radio and heard Simon Jordan talking about prostrate cancer and how easy and important it was for men to get a PSA test. A few weeks later I was at my doctors for an asthma check and I requested a PSA test, he asked why I wanted it so I told him about the radio article.
BOOM. Test came back with high readings leading to more investigations MRI and biopsy.
BOOM. Too late cancer was found and worse still it had spread to my bones and is terminal.
To say what effect it’s had is difficult, more for my wife and children who are devastated obviously.
on a visit to St Bartholomew’s hospital London I chanced upon a Maggies Centre.
Maggie's is a Cancer charity and I had never heard of them, why would I? I NEVER did talk to people about my health and only went in to see what the place did.
maybe searching for answer to a million questions that were in my head.
It was the best chance I ever took, understanding knowledgeable staff, booklets, ward visits and a nice cup of tea.
Finding out you are not alone is vital, finding people who let you talk is invaluable. People outside your nearest and dearest are sometimes easier to tell your fears too.
So if you can help me, help others while I am still fit enough to do it please get on board.
Loans of fixed bed motorhome or donations will be a massive help.
Thank you so much
