Prospective Statistical Educator needs to attend CanCOTS2025
Donation protected
Update: “Given that you are not currently working in stats education, the scientific committee feels that your claim is more tenuous than other applicants which we wish to prioritize. We could possibly offer you some funding if there are enough funds leftover. However, note that the amount you could reasonably hope for is probably no more than 250$, which wouldn't be enough to cover travel or accommodation. Note that such funding would also only be available after the conference, once we have received the monies from our sponsors.”
My name is Nicole. I am on the Autism Spectrum, 38 years old, and am currently not working a regular job. I am on Persons With Disabilities (Disability Assistance) in BC, Canada, where I only receive $1090.50 to last me 4-5 weeks. Having received the cheque on May 21, 2025, the next cheque will be issued on June 25, 2025. I applied for funding (travel support), and the application was rejected. There are several unaddressed, systemic barriers to working in Statistical Education in the province of BC, where I am. I am reaching out to friends and family and anyone else. There is absolutely no funding from the BC government for Autism “treatment” or (financial) support for #ActuallyAutistic adults over 20 years old in BC, Canada!
In the meantime, the conference is on June 9th to 12th, 2025, as I plan to join the CEGEP satellite workshop working group. More information about the conference can be found here: https://cancots.netlify.app/en/
