These are uncharted waters for all of us. At Proper, we’re navigating this moment as best we can, treating a worldwide crisis with the urgency it demands while continuing to be a support system at home for our Proper team and community.
We are deeply saddened by the huge impact this has had on the livelihood of our team as we continue to make the challenging decisions in front of us. As part of the local mandates and to protect the safety of our guests and staff, we have had to significantly reduce or shut down our businesses, which has resulted in the temporary furlough of many colleagues during this crisis. The Proper team is the heart and soul of our operation, the magic that makes our properties so special, and we are truly heartbroken for the impact that this is having on them and all others affected in the hospitality industry and beyond. We’re guided as a company by the notion that everyone deserves to live well — especially our hardworking Proper colleagues — and we’re doing our best to make decisions that consider the short-term urgency while securing a long-term foundation for our team to come home to.
We are actively working on different ways to offer support to everyone who has been impacted across our properties, starting with our: Proper Hospitality Employee Relief Fund. This fund was seeded by Proper Hospitality executives and by Proper Giving, our non-profit arm whose mission is to donate 1% of our time, hotel space, and management fees from every Proper Hospitality-managed property toward the betterment of their surrounding communities. We are now opening it to you, our extended community, to help reach our goal.
100% of the donations will go toward alleviating financial stress for the members of our team whose jobs have been temporarily lost as a result of the Coronavirus crisis, and who are struggling to maintain basic human needs.
