Greetings Community Members, Family, and Friends,
It is with great excitement that we re-introduce you to Prom Reject Project which is coming together for the 2nd annual 2025 Prom Reject project.
Our Vision:
To create an inclusive and compassionate community where every student, regardless of their past challenges or absences, has the opportunity to celebrate their milestones and experience the joy and camaraderie of a prom night.
Mission Statement:
Prom Reject project is dedicated to ensuring that every student who has faced rejection from traditional school proms due to absences or mental health issues receives the chance to attend a memorable and supportive prom event. By mobilizing community resources, fostering an environment of acceptance, and providing a safe space for celebration, we aim to uplift and empower these students, affirming their worth and belonging.
The event is set to take place on august 1,2025 Reading pa 19602. We are seeking sponsors and donations to cover rental fees, sound, catering, prom essentials, a photographer, and a videographer. Additionally, we aim to award scholarships to the Prom King and Queen for higher education or trade school. We also welcome in-kind donations for services.
By giving these scholars this opportunity, we provide them with the chance for a thriving future. Undoubtedly, as these efforts grow and the movement gains strength, it will foster positive change in our community for many years to come.
Melo’s Story:
[A paragraph with Melo’s story and why]
My name is Carmelo i am a Class of 2024 Graduate. I have struggled with mental illness for quite some time. Depression anxiety ptsd to be exact. I know a lot of kids my age would not want to talk bout the struggles we face as young adults or ask for any help in any way. But i had to. There was a point in my life where even tho i had my needs and wants i mentally hit rock bottom yet too prideful to come to my mom i made poor choices that only made it worse for myself and my path. But my mom never gave up on me. I found my way asked for help. Now i had to catch up on school and it was one of the most difficult challenges i had to deal with but I wasn’t able to make school prom due to my choices.. therefore i came up with PROM REJECT. Although the name sounds bad here is my meaning to it… No one likes rejection for sure. Prom Reject (the name) was created to open doors and attract the kids that feel and think the way i have. That no matter what we do its not enough so we get discouraged. Prom Reject is to Celebrate acknowledge that we struggled but we DID IT. I would like for this to be an every year celebration and bring that joy to kids that’s for either mental struggle or financials couldn’t make their school prom…This is not to be in competition with any schools what so ever but more to be able to reach out to kids like me that face their struggles head on with all the fear but found courage and made it to their first finish line.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to a successful event with your help.
Sincerely,
Beronica Hernandez
