Hello, everyone! My name is Sarah, and I want to tell you about one of my dearest friends, Debra. She has been one of my closest friends for nearly 20 years.

She is the glue of her family. She raised 3 boys by herself, working continually to ensure their health and well-being. She is a proud grandma of 3 cute kids. She has always been a humanitarian, giving of her time and care to help anyone she met in need. Debra spent nearly 30 years as a CNA, mostly in nursing homes, going above and beyond to ensure proper care of the elderly and infirm. She advocated for transparency and accountability to stop patient neglect. She worked at PCRMC in Rolla, and for a long time donated funds from each paycheck she earned to contribute to the building of the Cancer Center. She is a wonderful human being, a rock for her friends and family, and has given so much over the course of her life.

Now is our time to try to give back to her.

A couple of weeks ago Debra got a diagnosis that turned her world upside-down. She has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, in more than one place in her body. It appeared suddenly and aggressively. As you can imagine, this has changed many things in her life. She may pursue one or more conventional treatments. Also Debra has shifted her daily and dietary habits to center on health and healing. Because of this Debra's dietary expenses have increased significantly, as have her costs for frequent transportation to the city in which she is receiving care.

Depending on the amount of funds raised Debra is considering shopping for an inexpensive vehicle so she can have transportation available for whatever she might need. She is also considering moving to another city to be closer to her immediate family, which would incur a large expense. Funds raised on this platform would help pay for Debra's moving expenses.

Gofundme takes an overall percentage of the donations, plus a cost for each donation made. Our goal is set to reflect all of this. As soon as the website approves the transfers I will be physically handing Debra's funds to her.

Debra has had what some would consider a life wrought with adversity, but she has never wavered from her loving, giving self, with the patience of a saint and the steadfastness of a soldier. She is a well-loved woman who contributes much to our world, and she is someone worth saving.
