My name is Alyssa and I’m running a half marathon to raise money for Project Lyme. Project Lyme is an organization that helps fund research, educate the public, and help Lyme patients through financial aid programs.
I got sick the summer before freshman year of college and it took a dozen doctors and over a year to get diagnosed with several forms of Lyme disease, and several co-infections including babesiosis, mycoplasma pneumonia, bartonella, and ehrlichia. 8 years later, I am still undergoing intensive treatment.
Unfortunately, there are so many people that struggle with this disease who aren’t able to find a doctor who can help, or can’t afford the testing and treatments needed since most are not covered by insurance. I am raising money for all the people who can’t get treated and suffer everyday, or who have not yet been diagnosed. I am raising money to bring awareness about this complex disease and also help fund research to better understand it.
I decided to run a half marathon to raise money and awareness for everyone who is struggling to get help, get diagnosed, and get proper treatments. Any ability to share about Lyme disease and contribute to Project Lyme is greatly appreciated.
