Welcome to Project Left Behind. My name is Brittany Bradley I'm a photographer and suicide survivor. In 2005 a dear friend and my former boyfriend Andrew Katosic died by suicide and my life and the lives of those around him drastically changed.
As a photographer I try to make the most sense of things that happen in my life through the study and creation of images. During this project I will be making portraits of those closest to the event that changed my life and the lives of many others over ten years ago. Because this project is not just about photographs but revisiting and honoring memories I've chosen a very unorthodox process to help better represent the projects emotional depth. I will be making Ambrotypes portraits of people close to Andrew in order to help sew together a greater understanding of him and a greater understanding of who he was to others. I hope to raise awareness to the realities and stigma surrounding suicide as well as give those left behind a voice.
The project itself is going to be very time consuming and will require me to travel and study under other practicing Ambrotypists. Because this also includes chemicals, glass supplies and so much more, I am looking to see if I can get a little help. I hope at the conclusion of this project to hold a showing and reception to share the final images and stories and memories about this young man so many people cared deeply about.
This project has been something I have desperately wanted and needed to do for myself as well as the community of people who loved Andrew. Please help me complete this project anyway that you can.
