Dahlia's New Mug, Facial Feminization Fund
Hi cuties!! I'm Dahlia, a 26yo trans girl on the east coast. For some time I have been in the long, arduous process of saving up for FFS (Facial Feminization Surgery), but this has become increasingly difficult being one of the most costly procedures for transwomen. Consult fees, booking fees, surgical cost, electrolysis, anesthesiologists, travel, aftercare/recovery, etc. are all factors that have made this no longer independently feasible and I am asking for help.
I plan to seek care abroad in Europe where costs are lower and the medical skill set is higher than in the States, and have researched this thoroughly. Although this alleviates some cost, the increasing unlikelihood of student loan forgiveness puts me at a crossroads. I fear I am losing valuable time chasing a life-affirming goal that is impossible to accomplish on my own.
Graduating into a pandemic has not left me with many job prospects. I'm a digital illustrator with a degree in fashion design, mostly relying on freelance gigs because job openings are scarce. Having funds leftover to save after paying the cost of living is a feat in itself. Trans women deserve affirming healthcare, and it is disheartening that so many of us must rely on community generosity to simply exist as ourselves.
