Project Break Free presented by Ms. Hillary's Kids, AJ "El Kallejero" Ramos, and Coach Parker.
Imagine growing up in a single parent home, in a neighborhood where not many opportunities abound and poverty is an all to common sight. Drugs and violence can be too easily found around the corner. Your mother works two jobs but making ends meet is a continual struggle. Moving to a better neighborhood is not an option because she cannot afford to do so. All too easily can the streets become your sitter and guide you down a negative path that all to many in the neighborhood have fallen to.

But what if you have organizations that believe in you and nurture in you the belief that you, and not your circumstances, can define your future and empower you to reach for the highest star. Organizations that provide the guidance and tools to succeed in life through mentoring and self-development programs, provide a safe haven to nurture your dreams and focus on your interests or passion. This is the life work of Ms. Hillary's Kids and the North Rampart Community Center in New Orleans, LA.
While many associate the city of New Orleans with Mardi Gras and a live, vibrant music scene, it is a city with many challenges, in particular for youth and families who are low income or underprivileged. Too high a percentage of the city’s youth (among the highest in the nation) are growing up in poverty. New Orleans also has among the highest incarceration rates for minorities, so many of its youth are growing in single parent homes where making ends meet is a continual struggle as mentioned previously. Drugs and violence are an all too common sight in some neighborhoods.

It is why the work of Ms. Hillary's Kids, lead by Hillary Vargas, and the North Rampart Community Center, lead by Coach Jeffrey Parker, are critical to the community and helping the local youth focus on their education and interests and not on the circumstances of their neighborhood. The North Rampart Community Center offers its youth and families afterschool programs, summer camp programs, athletics, self-development and mentoring programs. These programs have been instrumental in keeping its youth off the streets and on a positive path. For the last two years, Ms. Hillary's Kids, organization dedicated to helping youth find social, emotional, academic and spiritual balance in their lives through mentoring and self-development programs, has worked with the North Rampart Community Center in support of its youth.

Despite the circumstances and issues many of the North Rampart Community Center's youth face at home, they are dreaming big, have set the bar high for themselves and are putting in the work to succeed because of organizations that believe in them. They aspire towww.northrampartcommunity.com/ become future engineers, doctors, teachers, artists and entrepreneurs. Now is the time to invest in them and show them that indeed their dreams are possible and great opportunities await for them outside of their neighborhood.

It is why Ms. Hillary's Kids and the North Rampart Community Center are fundraising to bring ten of the North Rampart Community Center’s youth to New York City to tour the prestigious institutions (Juilliard, Princeton, Columbia, NYU) and other organizations in the vicinity many aspire to attend on their journey towards their dreams and meet with successful individuals of similar backgrounds who have excelled in their field of interests. For most, it would be the first time they will have travelled outside of New Orleans. The funds would utilized to cover the following: -the youth's transportation (airfare and getting around the NYC area)-hotel-meals
-tours of NYC landmarks.

This trip would leave an indelible mark on this youth group who have traversed much hardship in their lives and further cement in them the belief that they can rise above their circumstances and see that many do care for them and are cheering them on to succeed. Thank you for your help!!
