Project Zulu Township Teaching Resources

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Isabel, and I am thrilled to have been selected for a 4-week volunteering project as part of Project Zulu through my university, UWE Bristol.

The project involves me and 15 other trainee teachers travelling to rural areas in South Africa to teach in Township schools. This is an incredible opportunity for me to gain insight into a new culture, stay with a host family, and learn and teach alongside African academics as part of a skills and knowledge exchange.

100% of the money I raise will be going to resources for the schools we are partnered with in the townships in South Africa. Townships are often underdeveloped, deprived areas and are subject to load-shedding (periods of time each day without electricity). The money I raise will be going towards resources for the schools, which can be scarce in large classes of 60+. Past projects have raised funds for: sports equipment, textbooks, computer suites, and the building of new classrooms.

About Project Zulu Township Teaching

UWE Bristol trainee teachers volunteer in the schools for four weeks during their summer break, sharing and developing their teaching skills alongside the South African teachers. Adapting to large class sizes of up to 60+ pupils and often working with limited educational resources are significant parts of this experience. This project provides opportunities for UK trainee teachers and South African schools to observe each other's teaching, share and introduce new teaching resources as well as learn from each other's approaches.

This programme aims to enable qualified and trainee teaching staff from the UK and South Africa to share their teaching techniques and best practices, helping to broaden their knowledge; mutually benefitting teachers from both countries regardless of their prior experience.

Why I am Raising Funds

I am fundraising to enable our UWE Township teaching team to donate vital resources to each of the partnerships schools we will be working with. With large class sizes resources are scarce and in addition the load shedding schedule affects the use of any technology used to teach. Project Zulu has been working closely with South African partner schools, and together they've identified resources and educational development projects that are tailored to individual school needs.

Previous years fundraising has helped the communities with resources such as; sports equipment, textbooks, computer suites, and the building of new classrooms.

100% of donations raised through this GoFundMe page will be going towards funding the vital resources needed to help enhance the quality of teaching within the township communities.

Any and all donations you make would make a huge difference!
Thank you.
