Hi, I'm James Gordon, a Canadian Board member of the Tumaini Letu DRC project - which has been working to bring Healthcare , Education and Literacy, and Food Security, with the goal of bringing a community-run health centre, classroom, and programs, to the beleaguered village of Ciruko in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The village has been the victim of war, famine, and extreme poverty. Malnutrition, malaria, and water borne diseases are at a dangerously high level and the civil war has made access very dangerous. Our group has done assessment studies and made plans for improvements pending an easing of the violence in the country. Their most valued community asset has been the school, and to add to their troubles, a recent wind storm tore off the schools roof, and they have no alternate location. We are hoping to help the village raise the 20,000 CDN dollars needed to repair and restore the school to a functioning condition. We have paused our other initiatives till we reach this goal.
