Hi everyone!
We are excited to introduce Project RISHI (Rural India Social and Health Improvement) at the University of California, Irvine. We are a passionate, student-led and aspiring nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering long-term, sustainable growth in rural India through meaningful, community-driven work.
This year marks our very first year as a chapter, and we are incredibly excited to begin this journey. For the 2026–2027 school year, we are launching an online fundraising campaign to support the development and implementation of our first set of projects. The funds raised will go directly toward materials, resources, and program development for our upcoming trip to Saladi, Gujarat (near Amreli) in December 2026.
Our chapter is partnering with the village of Saladi, where we are working side by side with the sarpanch (village leader), doctors, teachers, farmers, and community members to understand local needs and co-create solutions. Rather than short-term aid, our goal is to build strong, sustainable systems that address critical challenges and continue to serve the community long after our visit.
For our upcoming trip, our primary focus will be in the clinical and education spaces, where we aim to support access to basic resources and supplies while also developing and leading educational workshops. These initiatives are designed to be practical and sustainable to the needs of the Saladi community.
While our work extends internationally, we are committed to serving our local community as well. Throughout the year, our members are involved in a variety of volunteering initiatives, including working with the Lestonnac Free Clinic in Orange County, volunteering and supporting organizations like Shade tree Nursery, collaborating with NMDP to raise awareness for stem cell transplants, organizing women’s health and school donation drives, and mentoring students. These experiences ground our mission in service and long-term impact—both locally and globally.
Our work is driven by five core committees: Clinical Health, Youth Education, Sustainability, Reproductive Health, and Computer Literacy. Each committee focuses on a different aspect of community development, allowing our members to contribute through diverse perspectives and skills.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference in helping us bring these projects to life. Your support goes directly toward tangible resources that impact real lives:
$5–$10 can provide basic hygiene or school supplies
$15–$25 can support educational materials for workshops
$30–$50 can fund health-related kits or educational software
$75–$100 can help us provide and sustain clinical resource such as eyewear or walkers
$200+ can contribute to full-scale project implementation such as providing portable diagnostic screening devices
As a new chapter, your support means everything to us. You are not only helping fund supplies—you are helping us build the foundation for a long-term partnership with Saladi that future students can continue for years to come.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our mission. Whether through donating, sharing our story, or supporting our work in any way, we are truly grateful to have you be part of this journey with us.
