We are Amanda Shu '27 and Stella Bae '28, students at Harvard-Westlake School and co-founders of Project Releaf through Stanford University’s Climate Leaders Fellowship. We are raising money to plant fire-resistant native trees and plants in Chino Hills, California, where over 80% of the land is classified as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. Our first planting site is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a Thai Buddhist temple that serves as a cultural, spiritual, and community hub and sits directly in a high-risk wildfire zone. This project matters to us because recent fire regulations have required large amounts of vegetation to be cleared, leaving areas more vulnerable to extreme heat, erosion, and poor air quality. Our goal is to replace unsafe brush with strategically selected, fire-resistant native trees and plants that improve fire safety while restoring shade, cooling, and natural beauty.
100% of donations go directly to trees and planting materials:
• $25 - plants one fire-resistant native tree or shrub
• $50 - plants two trees/plants with mulch
• $100 - plants three trees/plants with full soil preparation
• $250 - plants 8+ trees/plants as a major project supporter
Every tree planted helps cool the area, improve air quality, prevent erosion, and build long-term climate resilience for the temple and surrounding community. By supporting this fundraiser, you are helping us plant before disaster strikes—protecting a community space and taking local action against climate change, one tree at a time.
