Hello beautiful people! This is Zulay Henao and if you follow me on social media then you’ve been waiting and expecting this. If you don’t know then welcome to our cause! Let me tell you more, while in Puerto Rico, filming the 2nd Season of The Oath, which I’m very excited about. Something amazing and serendipitous happened, I came across two beautiful, purposeful women. Martha Trinidad (left) works in the Hair department of our show and Pastor Isa, to my right, pastors a small community in a town by the name of Corozal. Corozal is a town about an hour inland from where we are filming in San Juan Puerto Rico. As you very well know, the aftermath of Hurricane Maria has devasted many communities, towns and people that for a lack of a better word have been forgotten, and I’m not going to make this political. After visiting this town a couple of times and talking with Martha and really educating myself on the everyday reality of these people and especially the children, something in me was activated. Corozal is a very high risk place for young people because the drop out rate is among the highest on the island. I was so moved by what Martha was singlehandedly doing with her husband and other community leaders. She is creating outreach programs for the children to bring them hope and make them feel loved. Dealing with topics like drepression and hopelessness. They are work endlessly with other community leaders to help people fix their homes, their roofs and sometimes just have a meal to eat. This island is in a crisis that we haven’t altogether acknowledged, and like i said earlier I don’t want to make this about politics but instead about humanity. I decided to partner with Martha and start a foundation to bring some light and real resources to this part of the island. The High Garden Foundation will focus on bringing humanitarian efforts and child development assistance in the wake of the Hurricane Maria disaster. We are asking for your help to fund this cause. The 1st order of business is to send 50 kids (some below) back to school with hope, a smile and all the supplies they need. I am currently happy to say that we have NIKE sending us sneakers for all the kids. We are hoping to buy all informs, schools bags, supplies etc.

This Beautiful young family above me lost their entire home due to the hurricane, and are now living with their family members in a crammed 2 bedroom small house. The goal is to get the situated in their own home and provide them with the tools they need to raise their family.

In the above phote Martha was showing me how the infrastructure/roads/bridges have been severely damaged. A lot of traffic lights are still not functioning.

This is the actual picture of someone’s home foundation, the stilts are rotten and unstable from water damage. This woman had Tears in her eyes explaining to me how everyday she lives I fear that her home will collapse, the picture actually does it no justice. I have the same fear for her, she is a single mom with two beautiful daughters.

As you can clearly see a lot of these home are so battered, the families live in constant fear knowing that they are in no way prepared to withstand this hurricane season.

With people like Martha on the ground - who not only works in the entertainment industry here on the island, but has also dedicated her life to special education and is committed to this community I am hopeful that we can make a real impact. The couple above are an amazing testament to true love and courage. Their home was almost altogether destroyed in the Hurricane and in the midst of it all she is battling cancer and yet they are still smiling and are very hopelful. She is losing all of her hair and your donations would also help us get her a beautiful wig to bring back her confidence.
The High Garden Foundation needs your support, we are in the final stages of finalizing all the legalities of a non-profit. But please feel confident in knowing that your donations are going DIRECTLY to a community that needs your love.
God Bless you and thank you.
