Empower Maasai Girls Through Education
Hello, I'm Farzana La Rue, and I'm passionate about supporting the young girls of the Maasai community in rural Kenya. It all began with an extraordinary encounter a year ago. Two of my daughters, crossed paths with a Maasai woman in the lobby of the Maasai Mara game lodge. I had the privilege of meeting Tito, a courageous Maasai woman dedicated to rescuing young girls in her village from various challenges such as early teen pregnancy, forced early marriages, and FGM. Tito and I kept in touch through Whatsapp. Through ongoing conversations with Tito, I learned about the obstacles faced by Maasai girls daily dealing with the harsh realities of early teen pregnancy, forced abusive marriages, and the horrors of female genital mutilation (FGM). She would tell me about the girls she rescued and reached out to me for assistance in supporting this group of vulnerable Maasai girls. Following her plea for help, I took proactive steps by commissioning an investigator to assess the situation firsthand. On that pivotal day, our efforts identified six orphaned girls in need of support. Since then, I've been wholeheartedly dedicated to raising funds for these six girls, enabling them to access a year of education at a boarding school.
I've witnessed firsthand how even a modest contribution can create remarkable transformations in their lives. I believe that education helps break the vicious cycle of poverty and early marriage that many Maasai girls face. The cost of boarding school in Kenya presents a financial burden to countless Maasai families, perpetuating a cycle of limited opportunity and gender inequality.
Our Progress:
Thanks to the generous contributions, we've made significant progress in our mission last year. We were successful in supporting these young ladies for 3 terms so far. During their first term in 2023, the girls had the opportunity to attend their first field trip to the bustling city of Nairobi and visit the museum. This experience ignited new dreams and aspirations within them of living in a home and pursuing higher education to attain better job prospects which they had never spoken of before. Through their educational journey the past year, these girls have not only excelled academically but have also blossomed personally, gaining newfound confidence in their abilities and embracing their potential to create positive change in their lives and communities.
Our Fundraising Goals:
Our goal remains to continue raising funds to support these six girls. Here's a breakdown of our upcoming expenses and fundraising targets:
We aim to cover expenses for Term 2, Term 3, and Term 1 of 2025.
Additionally, we're adding $100 between terms to address additional expenses for food and healthcare during breaks.
Number of Girls and Schools:
We are currently supporting a total of 6 girls:
- 5 girls are attending Standard 1-6 at Talek Primary Boarding School.
- 1 girl is attending high school at Talek Secondary Boarding School.
How You Can Help:
Your donation will directly contribute to boarding school fees, meals, uniforms, books, and other essential supplies for these girls. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will have a meaningful impact on their lives.
Spread the Word:
Please help us spread the word by sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, and networks. Together, we can raise awareness and mobilize support for Maasai girls' education.
Final Thoughts:
By investing in the education of Maasai girls, we're not just changing individual lives — we're transforming communities and promoting gender equality and human rights.
Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and dedication to our cause. Together, we can shape brighter futures and build a more equitable world for all.
Love,
