The Saint Thomas Aquinas High School (Lycée Saint Thomas d'Aquin de Rutovu, LSTAR) has its origins in 1949 with the creation of Ecole d’Application Pédagogique (EAP) by Belgian missionaries (from the White Fathers community). The school was renamed Ecole Normale de Rutovu (ENR) in 1968 when it was taken over by the Frères de l’Instruction Chrétienne (FIC), a congregation of Canadian catholic brothers. In 1998, it became a public school under convention with the Catholic Church and was renamed Lycée Saint Thomas d’Acquin de Rutovu (Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Rutovu) under the direction of the Congregation of the Bene-Yozefu Brothers of Burundi.
