Project Black Diamond

Donation protected

Project Black Diamond is a rescue mission to return a rare Lehigh Valley diesel locomotive back to native territory. The Historic Railworks is proud to announce the acquisition of Lehigh Valley 119, a 1950 Electro-Motive Division built diesel switcher. This largely forgotten gem needs your help to come home.

To bring the locomotive home, we plan to swap "Dummy" trucks under the locomotive so it rides on roller-bearings as well as refresh the airbrakes,   which will allow it to be moved on it's own wheels. This will save us THOUSANDS instead of using cranes and a flatcar.

Our breakdown for Estimated costs:

$8000 for Norfolk Southern to bring it home to Hazelton on it's own wheels.

$5500 for Trucking and small crane costs to facilitate the Truck-Swap and bring the Power-Trucks home.

$3000 for other misc. costs such as: Brake Shoes, Grease, Tools/Supplies and anything that may be required to get the locomotive "Move-Ready."

All Proceeds benefit the transportation and restoration of this locomotive. The Historic Railworks is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the memory of railroading in the anthracite region. More details can be found on our social media accounts. #bringherhome
