Today we bring you a heartbreaking note for all of us who feel the pain of others. On Sunday, May 4, 2025, while traveling from his residence to the capital city, where he attended medical treatment every month, Professor Abelardo Fuentes and his son were involved in a traffic accident. The most affected was Abelardo, who was rendered unconscious and recovered days later in a hospital, unfortunately with irreversible damage to his lower extremity. He suffered blows and fractures to various parts of his body, but the most serious injury was the loss of part of his femur, in which he suffered five fractures. On Thursday, October 9, he underwent another operation to remove the bone outside his skeletal system and then, in approximately two months, he was fitted with a "MEGA-PROSTHESIS OF THE PATELLA, FEMUR, AND HIP," the medical process for which is extremely EXPENSIVE (Q250,000.00 or $35,715). That's why we're reaching out to people who identify with helping those in need so they can join this cause. El 4 de mayo de 2025, el profesor Abelardo Fuentes, querido director de escuela y educador, sufrió un trágico accidente automovilístico mientras viajaba con su hijo para recibir tratamiento médico. Abelardo sufrió lesiones graves, incluyendo la pérdida de parte del fémur, lo que le impidió caminar durante más de cinco meses. A pesar de su fortaleza y dedicación a sus estudiantes y a la comunidad, ahora enfrenta su mayor desafío. Necesita una megaprótesis de rótula, fémur y cadera, una cirugía que cuesta Q250,000 o ($35,715) para poder volver a ponerse de pie y caminar.
