Education Costs for Teen Mom Jada

At first glance, this campaign may appear to be funding the education of one person, but it was actually created because of the confidence of several health care and public health professionals who believe this individual has the personal experience and passion necessary to do work that will bring meaningful improvements to the health of countless teen mothers and their children.
Jada is a teen mother who has been breastfeeding her daughter for three years while earning her high school diploma and beginning college. Jada spoke in 2018 at a conference for healthcare professionals and her presentation, Teen Moms and Breastfeeding, stirred and inspired the audience as she shared the research she has conducted on the unique barriers to breastfeeding and specific needs faced by teen moms. Alongside this critical information Jada seamlessly wove in her deeply moving and motivating personal story. Jada's dream is to become an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), a registered nurse, and to create a program that provides clinical and peer support and breastfeeding education for other teen moms.
Those who have had the privilege of seeing Jada present know that she is brilliant, dedicated, charismatic, and filled with a passion that will lead her to fulfill those dreams and much more. Jada made her audience aware that she has already beat the odds in a country where only half of teen moms finish high school. The goal of this campaign is to remove financial barriers to Jada's education as she continues her uphill work to become one of the 2% of teen moms who will finish college. The value of this campaign goes beyond supporting one person - Jada is the type of visionary and community advocate whose goals will increase safety and health and level the playing field for teen moms and their children everywhere.
The goal of this campaign will cover the costs of Jada’s IBCLC education and credentialing: in-state community college tuition and fees for general health sciences education requirements, travel for one week of lactation specific education, and international board examination fees. If we meet our initial goal we will raise it to cover childcare during her classes.
