Prof Mel Scheinman Southeast Asia Scholarship Fund
Tax deductible
Dr. Melvin Scheinman has touched the lives of countless electrophysiologists over many decades. His contribution to the field of Electrophysiology is truly hard to quantify. Those of us who have been lucky enough to work with Dr. Scheinman over the years, recognize him as the consummate educator, clinician, researcher, and gentleman. For the past several years, Dr. Scheinman has been working with other electrophysiologists from the United States in Cambodia in an effort to increase availability to electrophysiology services. Although doing cases is part of the mission, we are equally focused on building sustainability and helping to facilitate training for future generations of local electrophysiologists. In addition to teaching at the medical school and working with local cardiology fellows, we are also trying to help facilitate training in electrophysiology for cardiologists in Cambodia who wish to pursue this path (there is currently one EP in Cambodia, a country of 14 million people). Trainees who wish to pursue EP must do so outside Cambodia. To this end, we are establishing a scholarship fund in Dr Scheinman’s honor to help offset the costs of training for these young cardiologists. So many of us have been touched by Dr. Scheinman over the years. We believe that the establishment of this scholarship is one way to honor his legacy and contributions to our field. We have not yet told him about this, and would ask, for the time being to refrain from telling him about it. We will make a public announcement acknowledging him, the scholarship, and most importantly your valuable contributions to this project
